“if you ask a number of physicists what quantum theory really means you may receive very different answers” – yes, but they probably will agree that there isn't any decidably right or wrong answer to what it “really means”, and that the more important question of what it predicts for a concrete experiment can be answered unanimously. To get real disagreement today you should rather ask about something like string theory.

In the age of social media the reliability of experts could not be more irrelevant because people trust the opinion of idiots most. It truly is a case of the idiot leading the blind.
