Phoebe Gates Posts Graduation Snaps with Boyfriend Arthur Donald, Paul McCartney’s Grandson: 'He Cleans Up Nicely'

Phoebe Gates shared a behind the scenes look at her happy graduation day — including some sweet moments with her boyfriend.

The youngest child Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, graduated from Stanford University on June 15, completing her Bachelor of Science degree in human biology in just three years.

In a graduation photo diary for Nylon, Phoebe, 21, shared some candid snaps from her big day, which included smiling shots with both her parents, as well as a pair of snaps with Arthur Donald, one of Paul McCartney's grandchildren. (She also posted the images on her Instagram account, simply captioning them, "Graduated.)

Although Phoebe has previously kept their romance relatively private — even declining to comment on whether they were dating in a March interview with Bustle — she slyly made a nod to their relationship in a photo caption for Nylon's story, referring to Donald, 25, as her boyfriend.

Alongside another post of the pair she quipped, "he cleans up nicely."

The pair initially sparked dating rumors in October, and that month Phoebe shared a photograph of them smiling together on her Instagram account.

"Paris on film," she captioned the snap. In September, they were also photographed together attending the premiere of Feud: Capote vs. The Swans at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Phoebe, who uses her platform to advocate for women’s rights and is gearing up for the launch of new tech company and fashion startup Phia, previously dated Stanford alum Robert Ross, while Donald has been linked to Ava Phillippe, daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe.

Donald, the oldest of the music icon's grandchildren, was born in England on April 3, 1999. He is the eldest son of Mary McCartney and her ex-husband, TV producer Alistair Donald.

He attended University College School in north London before heading to the Unites Sates to study history at Yale University.

Phoebe also has a connection to another member of McCartney's family: designer Stella McCartney, one of the musician's daughters, as well as Donald's aunt.

Opening up about her own love of fashion and sustainability during a 2022 interview with Women's Wear Daily, Phoebe shared that the designer and her mom are "good friends," and have been since she was little.

"I’ve been asking my mom forever and ever if I could meet with her," Phoebe told the outlet, noting that she finally got her chance earlier that year, when the then-college student was in London, interning for British Vogue.

Phoebe went on to say that she "felt very connected" to the designer due to their similar backgrounds.

"I feel like because she’s been able to use the platform she had, because of who her dad is, and then she took that and instead of being like, ‘oh, people define me by this,’ she took it and she was like, ‘OK, I have this immense privilege, now I’m going to use it to leverage something,’ and what she chose to leverage is to launch a brand that is completely sustainable," Phoebe shared.

The pair stayed in touch and Phia even debuted a collection of handbags in collaboration with the designer, in August 2023.
