2018 Moderator Election

Hi! I'm kmc and I'd like to be a mod.

I love and respect the Parenting.SE community. I'm here a lot, but I do a lot more reading than commenting. This is because I often come to a question and find that the answers and comments have already addressed the issues in a thoughtful, multi-faceted way. What I really appreciate about Parenting.SE is the heartfelt suggestions from diverse parenting experiences and philosophies, since what I've seen on most sites is either a caring group or a group for all. This is due to both the community and the mods. I've enjoyed being part of the first, and now, I hope, the second.

I love and respect kids and parents. Every parent and every kid is a complex person and there is no amount of time or energy that is wasted when it's invested in parenting our kids. The best of my parenting comes from the guidance I've gotten from other parents, so I think this community provides an important function and I'm grateful for it.

Logistically, I'm able to have unrestricted access to the site during the day so that I can be available to monitor. When I don't have the site open, I am still available to receive messages should there be a need.

Hello, I'm SomeShinyObject and I am nominating myself for the moderator position. I will try to be brief in explaining why I would like this position:

1. I'm here a lot. I come to Parenting.SE quite frequently and in every moment I come here, I try to see what positive changes I can make.
2. I like our community. I think we have built something solid that people can depend upon and we provide quality answers and directions for new parents and veteran parents alike.
3. I know StackExchange. I've been a member of StackExchange for over 6 years now and in that time, have learned quite a lot about how the site works, what it's primary goals are, and I have also learned a lot about myself and my interactions online.
4. I'm a parent of 4 bilingual, brilliant, and beautiful children. I like being a parent and thus I like having this resource to assist when I have doubts about my methods or need assistance.
5. I've wanted this since I first came to this site. At the very beginning I knew I wasn't ready for it, but now I feel that I am.

Hello, I am Becuzz and I'd like to throw my hat in the ring to be a moderator.

Why do I want to be a moderator?

I care about this community, plain and simple. This community has made me laugh, worry and appreciate just being here. One thing I strongly believe is that people are important. And this community is a way to help other people in meaningful ways. As such, I want to see it grow and become better. I'd like to see it grow to become a full fledged StackExchange site.

What would I do if I became a moderator?

I'd work to grow our community so we can graduate as a SE site. Right now the only things holding us back are our questions per day and our traffic from outside. But how would having moderator powers allow you to fix that you ask? By using those powers to help guide and keep new users active. More users means we get more content, which means more high quality questions which should bring more people in from search engines. With great power comes great ability to do good. And I would like the chance to do great good here.

Hi, I'm Joe, and I'd like to nominate myself to become a moderator on Parenting.

I'm a parent of two boys (six and five), and have been involved in this site since a little while after my second was born. Most of my posting history dates back to the first few years, but I've been around the site continuously in more of a watcher/lurker mode over the last year or so.

I saw the site go through a few major transitions over those years, and I think that the most important trait for a moderator is balance. This site doesn't have so much traffic that it's likely to need many hours' maintenance from each moderator, though I am highly available for those needs.

Rather, it needs moderators who are able to keep an even keel when seriously stressful subjects are raised (spanking being the most obvious issue), and who aren't afraid to be self-critical and admit when they've made mistakes. The moderators we have now, I feel, have these qualities; I think I do as well.

I'm very experienced with the StackExchange model, and am firmly onboard with the theory of moderation.
