Kendrick Lamar is getting hitched!
The “Blacker the Berry” rapper, 27, confirmed that he and longtime girlfriend Whitney Alford are engaged during an interview with Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” on Friday (via Fader).
“Yeah, definitely,” the emcee said when asked if the engagement rumors were true. “I’m loyal to the soil.”
The fiercely private Lamar and Alford have been together since they were in high school. During the interview, he went on to say how much he values the people who have been there for him since the beginning.
“At the end of the day, you want to always have real people around you — period. Everybody that’s been around me has been down since day one and I can’t change that. I don’t change for nobody. I always show respect when respect is being given and people that’s been by your side, you supposed to honor that. That’s how you stand up.”
The couple have rarely been photographed in public together — although they were spotted at last year’s Grammys and at a Halloween party in Puerto Rico — but Lamar has started to open up about his other half over the last year.
“One particular young lady,” he said of her to The New York Times Magazine last year. “She’s been here since day one.”
