Ever wonder what happens to old work uniforms? Over 1,000 staff work in our South Island Distribution Centres, and every year there are old or worn out uniforms that need replacing. We’ve teamed up with New Zealand textile recycling champions ImpacTex to give those uniforms a second life. Instead of going to landfill, we’re donating our uniforms to ImpacTex for recycling, redistribution, and reprocessing. Usable uniforms in good condition are passed on to our newest team members, while textiles that can’t be worn will be transformed into ReTex, a sustainable material used in packaging, signage, and furniture. We expect this new partnership to reduce our landfill waste by over two tonnes annually – all part of our promise to be Here for NZ and leaders in sustainability. Here’s to a Hundy, Four Square! We’re excited to mark the centenary of Four Square and an incredible 100 years of our stores serving and supporting local communities across the country. It all began on July 4, 1924, when our founder Mr J Heaton Barker drew a square around the ‘4’ of the date on his calendar, marking the birth of one of Aotearoa’s most iconic brands. While Four Square has undergone numerous changes since its early beginnings, its commitment to community, customer convenience and a service that’s second to none, lives on. Four Square has been there for countless barbecues, road trips, and everyday missions to top up on the essentials, and our extensive network of stores across the motu will continue to be there to serve and support their communities for many years to come. True to form, our stores across the country will be celebrating the centenary with their communities through giveaways, specials and a limited-edition range of Four Square’s ‘Here’s to a Hundy’ merchandise, featuring Mr Four Square, the friendly grocer that’s become a kiwi icon and a part of our cultural identity. Our ‘Here’s to a Hundy’ merchandise is available for purchase instore, while stocks last, and was designed to capture the Four Square spirit, with a focus on quality, convenience and making life easier for customers. Head to your local Four Square to check out the fun and vibrant range of bucket hats, caps, drink bottles, cake tins, tote bags and more. Happy 100th Birthday, Four Square! Earlier this month, our grocer owner-operators voted overwhelmingly in support of our proposed merger with Foodstuffs North Island. We have had to challenge every aspect of our business model to be as efficient as we can during some of the toughest economic times for New Zealanders, because our number one job is delivering value at the checkout. As one nationwide co-op, we’ll be more efficient, and able to invest in the things our customers care about: value, quality and innovation. Our teams will be working for one world-class organisation. Our suppliers will have one valued relationship, and we remain committed to supporting the growth of small and emerging New Zealand suppliers. Our Members will be able to deliver greater value to customers through lower costs of doing business. More efficiency = lower cost = better value and innovation for our customers. The Commerce Commission is moving to the next step in the clearance process, as it considers our application to merge with Foodstuffs North Island. We continue to engage constructively with the Commission. This merger is the right thing – not the easy thing – to do. There are clear reasons for the merger and its benefits for New Zealanders. Importantly for customers, we will remain 100% New Zealand-owned by the local grocer families who are on the shop floor every day, serving their communities. That’s a great thing for New Zealand. Foodstuffs’ updates on the merger and a copy of the clearance application are here. https://lnkd.in/gTGc9n83 Mary Devine, ONZM Tim Donaldson Damian Lynch Kris Lancaster Andrew Crerar Shayne Tong Matt Richardson Andrew Gaukrodger Dominic Quin- Niah Taylor

At Foodies, we’re proud of our reputation. Our co-operatives are built on having local owners who are focused on working hard for their communities. That’s why we’re stoked that both PAK’nSAVE and New World continue to be recognised by New Zealanders for their commitment to being leaders in fairness and trust according to the latest Kantar Reputation Index. A massive congratulations to our PAK’nSAVE team who, for the 8th year in a row, have ranked #1 for fairness in Aotearoa, and took home the overall second place in the index with a massive Rep Z score of 110. And a big shout out to everyone at New World who’ve ‘found their wonderful’ and jumped into the top 10, with an overall score of 106, which represents a world class rating. Congratulations to all the top 10 companies and watch out Toyota New Zealand Limited, we’ve got the top spot in our sights! Locky Docks - a cute name for a very cool free service that's making a 'wheelie’ wonderful impression for customers of New World Ilam. The free lock, dock and recharge stations lock any kind of bike and can charge for e-bikes and other modes of transport too, like electric scooters. Owner Operator of New World Ilam Marc Brokenshire , came across the Locky Docks earlier in the year and knew they would be a great addition for the community – the supermarket being close to Canterbury University with students and academic staff often getting around by bike. The supermarket has installed 20 stations spread across the front and back of the store, for customers and his staff to use, and is the first South Island supermarket to install them. Nice work Marc and the team from New World Ilam! A warm welcome to Craig and Karen Bishop-Everett, the new owner operators of On the Spot Meadows in Richmond! Craig and Karen are delighted to open a brand new On the Spot store for the Meadows community next Tuesday 18 June. The duo recently switched the sea for dry land, returning to the top of the South at the end of 2023 after four years of fulltime sailing abroad. Prior to embarking on the trip, Craig and Karen owned On the Spot Collingwood and Take Note Tākaka. After the adventure of a lifetime, they’re looking forward to serving and getting to know the Meadows community. We’re chuffed to see PAK’nSAVE awarded Kantar’s April Ad Impact Award for the latest Stickman instalment, ‘No Loyalty Cards’. After 18 years on air, Stickman continues to delight New Zealand audiences by staying true to his brand promise to keep prices low for customers. The ad won the award for successfully delivering on the three key pillars of branding, humour and brand promise. Our 58 PAK’nSAVE stores across the country work hard to keep prices low, and our daily focus is on doing everything we can to save customers money. ‘No loyalty cards’ is a great example of our commitment to the no frills nature of the brand – and we’ll continue to make sure we do all we can to deliver NZ’s lowest food prices. Congratulations to New Zealand Food Network for officially opening their new premises and warehouse in Penrose this week. The facility was officially opened by Minister of Social Development, Louise Upston. We're incredibly proud Kyrin Gourley from our Supply Chain team was invited to speak at the event. Kyrin highlighted our partnership with NZFN, which began nearly a year ago. This collaboration has been a game-changer, providing us with a straightforward and effective way to donate food products to community organisations in desperate need. Thanks to NZ Food Network, we’re now more connected to the communities we serve, and we couldn't be prouder of this partnership. Here's to many more successful years of making a difference together! Proud to share this important moment for the Foodstuffs co-ops. The grocer owner-operators of Foodstuffs South Island and Foodstuffs North Island have voted in favour of becoming one nationwide co-op. The vote means the merger can go ahead, subject to Commerce Commission and High Court approvals. Chair-designate and Christchurch owner-operator Russell McKenzie says getting Members’ support is significant. “This merger is driven by an ambitious goal for the future – to become the best grocery co-op in the world, owned by the best local grocery retailers and wholesalers, delivering the best experience and value to New Zealanders. We’re confident we can achieve that together,” says McKenzie. The merger won’t change the number of stores or distribution centres, their local grocer owners, our trusted brands, or that fact that our 500+ stores are 100% New Zealand owned, and all profits are returned to New Zealanders.
