The next implementation milestone of #openbanking APIs will be the account information API by the 30th of November 2024. The big four banks have agreed to make this API available to trusted third parties (through bilateral agreements) who will then be able to securely access bank data such as account lists, balances and transactions. And with the right customer consent, they'll be able to retrieve this data, which will pave the way for helping every day NZers be better off through better financial products and services. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Open Banking needs to open wider.” It dives into the heart of Open Banking, unpacking everything from the industry-led vs. regulation debates to the pros and cons of regulated APIs versus unregulated screen-scraping methods. On 23 May 2024, the API Centre ran an Open Banking Showcase, where BlinkPay were asked to provide a demonstration of how we've used Open Banking APIs for our Blink PayNow product, which is out in the market today. The open banking implementation date of 30-May has come and gone, and so the question our own Chief Product Officer Adrian Smith explores is 'now what?'
