Jacob Trouba and the Rangers are at odds on a potential trade — and that’s OK

When a core player — a captain, in this case — is dragged through the offseason rumor mill, repeatedly getting clunked in the head by report after report, the obvious concern is not only how it will affect the player’s psyche as it pertains to the team, but also how it will impact the locker room.

There’s naturally been a lot of discourse in the NHL surrounding the Rangers, Jacob Trouba and how the organization’s attempt to move on from the veteran defenseman has been handled.

Talk of Trouba “holding the Rangers hostage” by exercising every right he has within the seven-year, $56 million deal the club gave him in July 2019. Talk of how the Rangers can possibly bring him back after such a messy and public situation.

The NHL is a business that runs both ways.
