🌟 A perfect example of the great founders we have in our portfolio companies where the triple bottom line is important. The triple bottom line is a business concept that states firms should commit to measuring their social and environmental impact—in addition to their financial performance—rather than solely focusing on generating profit, or the standard bottom line. In the long run we believe that this gives the companies a competitive advantage. You and the rest of the Matter. team are true role models, Adam Root! 💙 Jonas Skattum Svegaarden, Ross Brooks, Sam Selig, Anthony Bellafiore, Ingrid H. To all friends far and wide, I was shocked to hear about Dyson losing over 1000 people. So many of you have given so much for such a long time. I’m quite taken back but the scale and seniority (decades of experience) leaving the buisness. I would like to help. I have limited resources but a lot of experience. Brad Harper happy to attend and support your event. We are also happy to host a couple of evening sessions at matter HQ talking about starting a business or helping those dusting off CV’s from my time as an employer. Since leaving Dyson, I’ve hired over 50 people have raised over $15m dollars in angel, vc, family office and debt. I started with £250 and a did a 5 day buisness course with the princes trust. It is possible, just a lot of bloody hard work. Matter. Will also be looking for a few roles over the next couple of months. We can’t home 1000 people but can certainly help. Let me know in the comments if we can help you and how. If there is enough interest I’ll set up some workshops after work to chat to as many people as we can. Keep your chin up, you have work experience most employers dream about.

Intern Takeover part 4: As part of the intern takeover at Katapult Ocean, I want to share a bit about my experience of moving from Germany to Norway. A year ago, I took the step to Oslo to study Sustainable Finance at BI Norwegian Business School. This move has been an incredible adventure, and I’ve fallen in love with Norway’s breathtaking nature. The stunning landscapes and outdoor activities have inspired me to become more sporty; I even started going for runs in minus degrees. Surprisingly, the winters here weren’t as harsh as I had imagined. Learning Norwegian has been a fun challenge, and I’m proud to say my skills are “ikke så verst” (not too bad) after one year. Knowing English and German definitely made it easier to pick up the language. And while Norway might not be famous for its cuisine, I’ve developed a love for Norwegian waffles and Lefse with butter and sugar. Despite the cliché that it’s hard to make friends in Norway, I’ve met many wonderful people and built a great network. Moving here has really enriched my life. I feel lucky to be able to study and intern in such a beautiful place, all while diving into my passion for sustainability. Intern takeover part 3: Hey everyone, 👋 I’m Jan Kästingschäfer from Germany and currently spending my summer at Katapult Ocean as an intern. Last year, I moved to Oslo to study Sustainable Finance as a master’s at Handelshyskolen BI - Norwegian Business School, combining my passion for sustainability with my excitement for mathematical finance. This internship is my first dive into the ocean investment world 💶 🌍 and it’s been an exciting experience so far. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn, from evaluating the potential of innovative startups to understanding the intricacies of impact investing. Working with all the brilliant people 🤓 - both the dedicated team at Katapult and the founders of startups with their innovative ideas - is very inspiring: to see their passion and dedication to creating sustainable and scalable businesses that contribute to the positive change. What I really like about the internship is that I was part of the team from day one. I’ve been given lots of responsibilities and the flexibility to approach tasks in my own way. This hands-on approach has allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, gaining firsthand insights into how sustainable finance contributes to fostering a blue economy and understanding the practices of Venture Capital and Impact Investment. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and to support the team during the remaining weeks of this internship. Jonas Skattum Svegaarden, Ross Brooks, Ingrid H. Maurstad, Sam Selig, Anthony Bellafiore, Hedda Vonen, Sindre Østgård, Tharald Nustad, Alison Fort

🌎 As most of our followers probably know, the ocean covers over 70 per cent of the Earth’s surface, but only around five per cent of it has actually been explored. 💡 This is largely because investigating and monitoring underwater environments is much more difficult and expensive than land-based exploration. Our portfolio company Syrenna and the great founder team Ester Strømmen, Alex Alcocer and Becky Wightman is working on this. Read more about their tech in this article from Springwise Jonas Skattum Svegaarden, Ross Brooks, Ingrid H. ✨ Great news from our portfolio company SolarDuck! Yesterday the Merganser was successfully installed 12 kilometers off the coast of Scheveningen in the Netherlands. Read more about the Merganser project here: https://lnkd.in/dxaDVSkW Amazing work Koen Burgers, Don Hoogendoorn, Olaf de Swart, Harry Post, Ewoud Huiskamp, Francisco Guillermo Vozza & the whole the SolarDuck-team! Merganser successfully installed There she is, floating in her natural habitat! Merganser has been successfully installed by Herman Senior b.v., SVITZER MARINE LIMITED, #PorttowageAmsterdam,Nauticas Marine Services, Rijkswaterstaat – our installation partners (often using Damen ships). Getting this clean energy platform out to sea (through the IJmuiden locks, which was a very tight fit) and safely moored to the seabed, is the culmination of cunning engineering, hard work, and some sheer determination! We are very grateful to our partner RWE and its willingness to share and contribute their knowledge and experiences to this project. Also, our DEI subsidy partners MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), TU Delft | Mechanical Engineering, Deltares and TNO have played an instrumental role in getting Merganser ‘hatched’ and securing it’s fit for purpose for the next phase. Now, Merganser is at sea, 12 kilometers off the coast of Scheveningen. If you know where to look, you can see her on a clear day. She now enters the testing phase, equipped with 100’s of sensors gathering important information and allowing us to further fine-tune the design and prepare us for bigger projects in the (near) future. We are proud of our team’s performance in realizing this project and the safe and smooth installation offshore. Learning by doing, that’s what we do at SolarDuck! Want to know more about this? Interested in learning if this is a suitable solution for your energy needs? Please let us know via our website or contact us directly via LinkedIn. #solarenergy #offshorenergy #maritime #cleanenergy #energytransition #RWE

On this 4th of July at 1 pm CEST you can join a live stream of a remotely-operated dive at Loki's castle hydrothermal vent field in the Arctic, 2300 meters below sea level. Hydrothermal vents in the deep sea are extreme habitats where hot water rich in minerals gushes from cracks in the Earth's crust, creating unique ecosystems that operate independently of sunlight. During the live stream, the animals and microorganisms inhabiting these areas will be explored, delving into geochemistry, and collecting samples. The deep sea remains largely unexplored and inaccessible for most people. This live stream aims to provide an opportunity to experience a deep-sea dive straight from the remotely-operated vehicle (ROV) mission room, with commentary from the scientists onboard the research vessel G.O. SARS. The event is hosted by the #RIALHEproject (Remote Intelligent Access to Labs in Higher Education), in collaboration with the Centre for Deep Sea Research at University of Bergen targeting students, educators, researchers, in addition to the general public. Register for the live stream and receive updates for dive start.
Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: THE DEEP ARCTIC OCEAN. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

🌊 Intern Takeover part 2; My Passion for Freediving 🌊 As part of the intern takeover at Katapult Ocean, I want to share a bit about one of my biggest passions: Freediving. A year ago, I had the incredible opportunity to sail from the Philippines to Papua New Guinea. During this journey, I fulfilled a lifelong dream of swimming with mantarays. These majestic creatures, known for their impressive wingspan and graceful movements, left a lasting impression on me. Freediving is not only a way for me to explore underwater life and witness biodiversity up close, but it also provides a sense of peace and freedom that I truly cherish. It is both physically and mentally challenging, and it helps me connect with nature on a profound level. Combining my love for the ocean with my studies in bioeconomy, I'm constantly inspired to find sustainable ways to protect and utilize our biological resources. I feel privileged to be able to pursue my passions both at work and in my free time 🤩 Jonas Skattum Svegaarden, Ross Brooks, Sam Selig, Anthony Bellafiore, Ingrid H.
