‘KCAP Progress Construction on the Piekstraat Tower, in Rotterdam’ Rotterdam Zuid is an area of the city that is undergoing a decades-long revitalisation, which has been in process since the 1990s. The neighbourhood is known for being home to numerous small industrial harbours along the river Maas, many of which are no longer in use. Rising at the southern end of one of these—named the Persoons Habour—is a new residential high-rise, named the Piekstraat Tower. 'KCAP Vision for Lelystad City Centre-East Approved, in Flevoland' Today in #Lelystad, the municipal council approved the memorandum of principles for ‘Stadshart Oost’, which marks a significant step in the metropolitan and sustainable growth of the city. In collaboration with the municipality, #KCAP has outlined the ambitions, the vision and the conditions for this transformation of the eastern part of the city centre. Given the current high pressure placed on Amsterdam and its surround metropolitan regions, the centre of Lelystad offers ample opportunities to provide a significant portion of the need for new housing, at a major public transportation node in the region. The transformation of ‘Stadshart Oost’ will help to further establish Lelystad, as a diverse urban residential environment that is easily accessible due to the proximity of the intercity station. This newly envisioned area is set to become a unique, attractive and multi-functional part of Lelystad, where everyone—from long-time residents, to day trippers and tourists—feel welcome. It’s meant to be a bustling place, which is inviting to meet and explore, while also offering rest and retreat to live and stay, pleasantly, in the heart of the city—where nature and people are the forefront of design considerations. Within ‘#StadshartOost’, a robust green-blue framework will form the base for a healthy city. A key intervention will be the addition of a new linear park, offering ample green space to enjoy outdoor recreation and connection to nature. The leafy park will make the centre more nature-inclusive by connecting surrounding green structures; and more climate adaptive by capturing stormwater and contribute to urban cooling. Regarding mobility, the focus is on reducing car use and promoting healthy modes of transport like biking, walking and public transport. ‘Stadshart Oost’ is set to become incredibly urban in character, with buildings on average six to ten stories high, and with a landmark up to 18 stories. The new buildings will enrich the city centre with more than 1.200 houses and strengthen the heart of the city with services, culture, leisure, shops and places to work. The programming vision was developed in close connection with the ‘Action Plan’ for the entire city centre. This plan, which is being made by Republiek and INBO, also contains an integrated approach to improving the city centre as a destination for culture, leisure, shopping, working and living. In collaboration with stakeholders and the municipality, KCAP will further elaborate the vision into an integral urban plan. Continuous communication and participation with the community will be maintained throughout the process to come, weaving local residents into the process. 'KCAP RECAP: Transforming Renens, in Lausanne' At the forefront of #Switzerland's urban renewal initiatives is #KCAP's new project in Renens; a #transformative #urban #development aimed at rejuvenating a former industrial depot into a vibrant, sustainable slice of the city. Under the guidance of local authorities and KCAP's expertise, #Renens has undergone a significant transformation that reflects a commitment to sustainability and community engagement. On 6 June 2024, KCAP partner Xavier Blaringhem presented the project as part of a broader study trip named, 'The Reconquest of Low-Density Territories in the Jura Arc between Lausanne and Basel'. During the project visit, organised by ariella masboungi, terra nobilis / fabrica urbis and Alain Beuret (EspaceSuisse), participants had the opportunity to explore the urban renewal initiatives in Renens. The trip provided a platform for urban planners, architects and policymakers to gain insights into the project's innovative strategies. KCAP's design for this urban regeneration project in Renens, underscores our dedication to urban renewal initiatives that prioritise sustainability, and human-scaled placemaking. The study trip provided participants, with valuable insights into the latest urban development practices between Basel and Lausanne, and reinforced KCAP's leading role in shaping the future of urban living in Switzerland. 'KCAP to Design Masterplan for Breitenbach, Switzerland' For over 100 years, the Isola Area has been an important part of #Breitenbach, #Switzerland—which is situated close to the German and French borders. This area, with its characteristic industrial buildings, is set to be developed from an industrial area into a mixed-use site for residential, work and leisure uses. Old industrial halls are lined up next to classic, industrial office architecture from the 1960s. Protected woodland runs through the area, while the 20 km long Lüssel river—which is part of the Rhine’s catchment area—meanders and flows through the middle of Breitenbach. In 2022, KCAP successfully participated in a test planning process organised by Steiner AG, for the landowner, Seraina Investment Foundation. KCAP was then commissioned to develop the masterplan, which forms the basis for the legal plan amendments. At the core of the project’s #masterplan is the existing Isola Area, as a valuable resource for the transformation; whereby the site, the buildings, the outside spaces, the landscape elements and the water are all understood as resources for the transformation process. The project encompasses three different neighbourhoods on both sides of the Lüssel, the renaturation of which will create new recreational areas for residents. It preserves intimate spatial sequences from the industrial past and combines existing and new buildings, in a variety of building typologies. Isola Neumatt is a lush residential area to the west of the Lüssel with garden typologies that benefit from the green lung on the renaturalised banks of the river. Isola Valley envisages the restructuring of the industrial area, with higher-value activities centered around the majestic industrial hall. A gradual transformation strategy utilises the potential for #circular #construction. The project’s overarching aim is to create a #sustainable #neighborhood that preserves the existing atmosphere, thereby creating new living and working spaces as an intrinsic part of Breitenbach. On Saturday 29 June 2024, an event titled ‘Isola Fest’ will take place in Breitenbach from 12:00-23:00, with exhibitions and tours among other activities, and a presentation of plans to the public. Read more about Isola Fest taking place this weekend, in Breitenbach: https://lnkd.in/dhSd5XqC Stay tuned as we release more information on the project later this summer.

'KCAP Celebrate Pouring the First Floor of "Home of the Artists", in Utrecht' #KCAP is excited to share that first floor plate has been poured, for 'Home of the Artists' (#HOTA), a new building we designed that's currently under construction in Leidsche Rijn. This moment marks a significant milestone in the construction of this new housing project. Designed in collaboration with Studio Nuy van Noort, HOTA is set to become an integral part of a new, #vibrant #residential #community taking shape in #LeidscheRijn, by providing c. 250 new apartments for students, creatives and other young professionals. This project also embodies KCAP's commitment to addressing the Netherlands' current #housing #shortage, and in this stance, creates space where #creativity and #community, thrive.
