The Ellen MacArthur Foundation estimates that circular business models could make up to 23% of the global fashion market by 2030. Investors, this is your moment to support and capitalize on a transformative shift in the market. Our newest Circular Innovation Collective (CIC) thought piece leverages the experiences and challenges of the startups in the Amsterdam cohort of the CIC, presenting a strong argument for investment in early stage companies in the #CircularEconomy. The publication explores: - the investment landscape for impact-focused investors in the circular economy, - the importance of R-strategies in that context, - and the issues surrounding impact measurement. It looks at alternative business structures, such as steward-ownership or benefit corporation, that could support an impact-focused enterprise; while assessing policy actions that support business formation in the circular economy. Stephen Smith, BwB Managing Director, commented: “As investors adopt a more rigorous approach to the circular economy, opportunities will multiply, and those investments can contribute tangibly to environmental and social goals.” As awareness improves, capital flow will accelerate and business formation will improve, all with the bigger aim of a stronger, more sustainable circular economy, not only in textiles, but across industries. Curious? The new publication is available here: https://lnkd.in/dDCKX27r #circulareconomy #greenfinance #circularinnovationcollective #impactinvesting #SustainableCities The Circular Innovation Collective is a consortium of impact-driven organizations initiated by Metabolic, Impact Hub Amsterdam, and Bankers without Boundaries (BwB), with the support of the City of Amsterdam (Amsterdam Impact), The DOEN Foundation, and Goldschmeding Foundation.

🧵🪡→ https://lnkd.in/dspWUpbR --- Balancing style with sustainability – can we do it? The fashion sector is at a critical crossroads, striving to find creative ways to integrate sustainability in its procurement processes and business models. Creating a textile and fashion sector that is circular is not easy. But it is essential if we are to change fashion’s role as one of the most polluting and wasteful industries in the world. In our latest article, we outline four major fashion and textile innovation challenges that need addressing to move towards a circular economy. Learn what these key challenges are, and discover some innovators who are already tackling these issues below. 🧵🪡→ https://lnkd.in/dspWUpbR Pictured: Resortecs

When Innovation meets tradition | Brouwerij Stijl brews beer differently. Since 2015, they have been brewing specialty beers, while locally sourcing ingredients and embracing circular production methods. They grow their own hops on Utopia Island, use old bread from nearby bakeries, and pay great attention to recycling. What started as a passion project for the couple Anneke Geraads-Broeren and Raymond Geraads to share their beers, has quickly gained momentum. Click the link below to read all about how they are leading the way in this profile ↓ Are you signed up to our mailing list? A new project about the important role of mentors for entrepreneurs and the development of our intercultural toolkit ⬇ in the NatAlli project.
Mentors play a crucial role in the development of (impact) entrepreneurs. How can we support a successful collaboration between mentors and mentees from various cultural backgrounds. We're part of the NatAlli project that aims to empower Ukrainian women migrants. My colleague Yana Spotar wrote this great article about the first phase: the research that will lead to the development of a toolkit for mentors. https://lnkd.in/eZc6Jbdc

Circular startups are generating the jobs of the future. But how can cities and regions support the creation of such job opportunities? Circular regional programs can offer guidance, support, and funding for startups and cities in their circular journey. We explore the key role circular regional programs play in stimulating job creation in the latest research by the Circular Innovation Collective (CIC)! With learnings from our first Amsterdam pilot, we provide insights and actionable advice for policy makers in cities and regions looking to catalyze their own circular transitions. One of the featured startups from the Amsterdam Textiles Pilot is Atelier MADE HERE who expanded their workforce during the program from 10 to 16 skilled employees. Interested?
