On the 27th of June, DEFINITE-CCRI and CircularInvest hosted the 3rd session of the Circular Investment Readiness Network exploring tips and strategies for securing funding and attracting investors to your circular economy initiatives. Here are the key takeaways 👇 ✅ Demonstrating the cash flow generating capacity of your product is key to attracting financiers. ✅ Highlighting how circular businesses reduce environmental risks and contribute to long-term sustainability can attract additional funding. ✅Working with other organisations across the value chain can maximise benefits by sharing byproducts amongst each other. ✅Determining and tracking impact KPIs can help demonstrate to investors how circular businesses meet their own goals, for example, compliance with environmental regulations. 🚀 Insights from successful investment in a circular project 👇 💡Stays ahead of regulatory changes and demonstrates the project’s contribution to compliance. 💡Operates in a niche market with limited competition. 💡Positions its product as a 'need to have' rather than a 'nice to have'. Local governments can play a key role in promoting circular practices and helping communities move away from single-use packaging, products and materials. Today, for #PlasticFreeJuly, The Circular City Centre – C3 celebrates two inspiring local initiatives encouraging a sustainable lifestyle free from #plastic #waste. ➡ In Paris, the zero plastic wastewater movement is driving a significant shift in consumer behaviour. This initiative, launched by Eau de Paris and Aqua Publica Europea, promotes the reduction of single-use plastic for #water consumption by encouraging the use of refillable bottles. Parisians can now refill their bottles at fountains, restaurants and at home, drastically cutting down on plastic waste. The movement has also partnered with festivals and events to reinforce the 'no-plastic water' ethos. ➡ Luxembourg is setting an example with its EcoBox initiative, launched in 2018. This programme encourages the use of reusable food containers and cutlery through a deposit-refund system. With over 25,000 EcoBoxes in circulation across more than 100 participating restaurants, the initiative highlights the power of reusability. In June, the Balearic Islands secured €14,704,511 in funding from the Spanish government to support the recovery, transformation, and resilience of the tourism sector. A significant portion of this funding—€8.9 million—will be dedicated to energy efficiency and the circular economy. 🎉 We’re thrilled to see the advancement of the circular economy in the Balearic Islands. Last year, we explored potential pathways for the circular transition of the Balearic Islands’ tourism system. With over 100 circular initiatives already in progress, local stakeholders are on the right track. This additional funding will enable the Balearic Islands to develop a truly circular tourism system, with actions spanning five key areas: water, energy, materials, food, and mobility—and a focus on their interactions with the terrestrial and marine environment. 🌐🎉 Scotland has officially passed the Circular Economy Bill, enforcing stringent waste collection and recycling regulations! After months of discussions and development, the Circular Economy Bill has received the green light from the Scottish Parliament. This landmark legislation empowers local councils and the Scottish Government to promote sustainable resource use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Key provisions of the new legislation include: ✅Fines for vehicle keepers who drop litter from their vehicles. ✅Powers for local authorities to limit the destruction of unsold goods and impose charges on single-use items. ✅Establishment of statutory local recycling targets. ✅These measures will be bolstered by the £70 million Recycling Improvement Fund.
