During my internship with Hacktales, delving into PCI DSS V4.0 (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) provided me with a comprehensive understanding of essential practices and requirements for securing payment card information. One of the key lessons learned was the significance of aligning organisational practices with PCI DSS standards to ensure the integrity and security of cardholder data. Firstly, I familiarised myself with the various types of SAQs (Self-Assessment Questionnaires) and their applicability based on the organisation's size, scope of card transactions, and how they simplify the compliance process for different merchant levels. This understanding underscored the importance of accurately determining the appropriate SAQ type to streamline compliance efforts effectively. Moreover, I learned about the systematic steps involved in implementing PCI DSS within an organisation. This includes conducting thorough risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities, implementing robust security controls such as encryption and access management, and establishing policies and procedures to maintain ongoing compliance. Each step emphasized the proactive approach needed to safeguard cardholder data and mitigate potential risks. Additionally, studying the 12 requirements of PCI DSS deepened my knowledge of security best practices. These requirements include securing cardholder data through encryption and tokenization, maintaining a secure network infrastructure with firewalls and regular vulnerability scans, implementing strong access control measures, monitoring and testing networks regularly, and developing comprehensive information security policies. Overall, my internship experience highlighted the critical importance of compliance with PCI DSS standards in protecting sensitive payment card information. It provided me with practical insights into the strategies and methodologies necessary to maintain a secure payment environment and adhere to industry regulations effectively. These lessons have equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge applicable to ensuring data security and compliance in any future professional endeavours within the cybersecurity and compliance domains. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our mentor @Opeyemi Ajakaye-Maku for all her hard work and unwavering support. Her guidance, encouragement and support has been invaluable during this internship.

Q2 Reflection: Learning, Growth, and Milestone Earlier this year, I made some bold decisions about my personal development and career progression. While the decisions were tough, It is a personal conviction of mine that “every human being has the potential of achieving whatever, they so set their heart to achieve. We all dream- although DIFFERENTLY. Q2 was a time of embarking on a journey of learning, growth, and achieving some of my set goals. As I reflect on them, I’m delighted to have: • Evolved in my knowledge of Cybersecurity and Data privacy through my internship and live training classes at Hacktales. • Developed an intrinsic knowledge about relevant standards relevant to Governance, Risk, and Compliance such as ISO 27001:2022 (Information Security Management System), ISO22301 (Business Continuity), PCIDSS 4.0, HIPAA, and others. • Drafted and improved a well-written policy on HR and organisational structure. • Progressed in IT Risk Assessment and Management by reviewing a sample risk register. • Acquired sufficient knowledge in IT Audit and its’ components. • Completed courses in Operating System and Networking basics from Cisco. • Wrote a professional examination. • Started a new role. With the onset of the second-half of the year, it's the perfect time to reassess and realign my goals towards achieving them. Let’s embrace this moment as a chance to recalibrate our compass, to ensure we're still on the right path towards our destinations. 🚀
