“As Google retools its algorithms, some worry the result could be no less than an extinction-level event.” If you’re not convinced that the SEO economy is heading for free fall and an eventual death, this article should, in some ways, convince you. The problem is clearly spelt out: “Often, the results for popular search terms are crowded with websites that contain very little useful information, but tonnes of ads and links to retailers that earn publishers a share of profits.“ Whose fault is it? I can only think of one group of people: SEO marketers. SEO marketers have single-handedly changed the landscape of Search from one that is human-centric to one that is technical. All this for a slice of Google Ads revenue and affiliate dollars. Is it any surprise then that the biggest complainers of this change are owners whose site is inundated with ads every which way you look? It’s perplexing to me this obsession with ads that mar the viewing experience. When was the last time you saw an ad on a website and clicked it? I reckon, never since those site ads are never catered to you. And maybe, a business model rethink is in the works if the success of your business depends on an external entity never ever changing the way it works. Ever. But I digress. *** The fact is that today, users are not suddenly abandoning Google search overnight — no. That’s not what’s happening. But, the worry for Google is what’s happening outside its walls. The inevitable rise of LLM-esque models of search AND answer changes the way we approach search. Increasingly, we don’t want to trawl through a series of websites back and forth to find out what is the best 65-inch TV. We want it shown plainly and with justification for its ranking. TikTok has also changed how search online functions. The first-person nature of TikTok means websites are no longer the authority of directories that exist only as listicles. Users are now more willing and invested in first hand reviews from content creators rather than a listicle format of 20 best pasta bars that are merely instructional (where, what, why, when) instead of being informational. *** All this is to say that now is the time to focus on social media distribution instead of relying on Google Search for success. If AI overview has its way, all your website content is good for is for Google to mine answers from. It’s why today, it is crucial that the content you put on your social media platforms is relevant, meaningful, and contemporaneous. It’s no longer enough to string a few words together and pray for the best. You need to have a better understanding of who your audiences are, what the nature of the platform naturally leans towards via a vis content prioritisation, and how you can establish yourself as the definitive thought leader in a crowded space where everything is fighting for everyone’s attention. I have lost all my affiliate income. What are some ideas or suggestions on how to create a new revenue stream? Being down almost 20k simply because Google took traffic away really stings. But I will push forward as that's what we do. Ideas I'm considering #1. Starting Mountain Weekly News led tours to Ski Resort / Heli / Cat Ops. #2. Creating an Introduction to Splitboarding Camp in the Tetons. #3. Selling Branded Merch? I don't know that seems like a stretch. #4. Registering our photos with Copyright Office and wait for Infringements. #5. Creating a Flat Fee for Reviews on my Website. #6. Selling Marketing Photos to Brands vs Putting them in my Reviews Any other ideas suggestions, thoughts or concerns are always appreciated.

How even the biggest YouTube channel like Mr. Beast is ignoring this video optimization aspect that you can capitalize on 👇 With a great video you can attract your ideal clients. So you just have to nail your titles and descriptions and you'll show up in search results and suggested videos. Right? However, truth is that YouTube is an incredibly crowded place with millions of videos vying for attention. So if you want yours to stand out and attract clients, you need a strategic edge. And believe it or not, that edge can be YouTube SEO. (since YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine in the world 🔎) It's an edge because most people know it can help, but simply don’t do much about it. Or are putting their efforts towards optimizing for the virality route. Now, I’m no expert, but I don’t think “World’s Deadliest Obstacle Course!” are exactly high-volume & high-intent keywords. So yeah, if you’re making entertainment then SEO doesn’t matter that much… YES, the algorithm does work for you and finds viewers for your video. HOWEVER, as a business channel solving people's problems — problems that they’re actively looking solutions for — why wouldn't you put in a bit of extra effort to make sure your ideal audience can find you? The key is just doing keyword research. And then seamlessly those in your: ✅ Video title ✅ Description ✅ Thumbnail ✅ Video chapters (there’s also tags, but their effect is minimal, if any use at all) To find great keywords use tools like Keywords Everywhere, TubeBuddy or VidIQ to find the right keywords. And your YouTube analytics will also reveal which terms you're already getting impressions for. But, as always, avoid awkward keyword stuffing! When you optimize your uploads for the right keywords, your well-packaged videos will show up in search results and suggested videos — putting you in front of your ideal clients. So with a bit of effort, you can gain a major competitive edge that many channels simply ignore.
