Depending on where you're from or what year you were born, the word “indie” can mean many different things. But what's remained constant—from the wild, punk-indebted rock of the ’80s to the post-genre freedom of today—is that indie, if it can be defined at all, is about an unwillingness to conform. The music of Vienna-born, Manchester-based DJ salute fits that description and then some. Their collaborative single with Rina Sawayama, “saving flowers”, from this year’s TRUE MAGIC, is pop music that sounds great on the dance floor, in headphones and everywhere in between. “With Rina being Japanese, it felt like a perfect fit to have her singing over a sample from one of Japan’s most iconic bands, Casiopea,” they tell Apple Music. “It’s just a beautiful way to honour our friendship.” In the playlist formerly titled Untitled, these are the songs and sounds that share that spirit, whether it's psychedelic bedroom pop or interstellar R&B.
