🌍 North Macedonia faces various risks related to climate change and its consequences. Hazards like floods, wildfires, extreme heat, and landslides, will largely impact sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and tourism. 💡 The Swiss Embassy team, partners, and experts gathered for a two-day workshop to enhance the resilience of its cooperation programme with North Macedonia to climate change and disaster risks. Integrating climate, environmental, and disaster risk aspects across all domains and reducing the programme's impact on the environment is crucial for the way forward. So far, 🇲🇰🤝🇨🇭 Switzerland has supported North Macedonia in building flood resilience, nature conservation, clean water, and circular economic public utility services. Managing floods is a costly and boundless process. 🌊🚺 Women and vulnerable groups often bear the brunt of disasters due to limited resources and decision-making power, instigating the need for a gender-responsive approach to managing disasters that lowers this cost. At today's start at the Sub-Regional Conference on Gender Equality in Disaster Risk Reduction, Ambassador Hulmann emphasised the vital role of a gender-responsive approach. She shared that Switzerland through its "Improving Resilience to Floods in the Polog Region" project is ensuring women and vulnerable groups are integral to flood management plans.
