Jun 1, 2023 at 9:53 comment added Ian Kemp @JourneymanGeek Your problem, along with much of the moderation team, is that you continue to assume you're being listened to. You're not, and the only way you can change that is by drastic action, not Yet Another Angry Meta Post. For hope to continue to live, sometimes fire must burn.
Jun 1, 2023 at 9:47 comment added Journeyman Geek Well - there's constructive ways to try to change things, and if I run out of those, then all hope is completely lost, and I shouldn't be wasting my time here.
Jun 1, 2023 at 9:44 comment added Ian Kemp I'm not sure whether to be amused or disappointed that it's taken you so long to realise the truth that this community simply isn't important to management, especially considering how long you've been around - the way things are going has been obvious for at least half a decade.

Jun 1, 2023 at 1:10 comment added nitsua60 @Trilarion in each of the last two years' "how's it going?" meta that we do over on RPGSE declining activity/participation has been one of our top observations.
May 31, 2023 at 10:10 comment added Journeyman Geek Sure but it would be ignoring it, and feedback that was given, not things getting missed cause silence on both sides
May 31, 2023 at 7:55 comment added Shadow Wizard The most amazing thing is that SE is going to utterly ignore this discussion, we won't hear even a beep from any staff member. During Monica case there was Yaakov to serve as bridge, but pretty sure he got tired of this and won't do that again.
May 31, 2023 at 7:05 comment added Journeyman Geek It's very much an on the ground observation - from the sites I am active on. Lots of previously thriving communities are a lot quieter than they used to be.
May 31, 2023 at 6:47 comment added NoDataDumpNoContribution "quite a few sites have declined" Maybe one could quantify that a bit in order to show that the changes from the company side basically didn't seem to have a strikingly positive effect. Moderators should know the company even better than normal users. They should know exactly what to expect. Maybe this is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back or maybe not. I mostly care for the quality of the content, so if you moderators think that a strike is the best course of action in order to protect against too restrictive use of AI detection technology lowering the quality then I support it.
May 31, 2023 at 0:42 comment added Journeyman Geek @Makoto well in a sense - maybe it's a blessing but also a symptom of the problems with the company, that it can't attract folks with deep community roots, nor values the ones who try to do it anyway. That's rather contrasting with the old days when a good chunk of staff were site/network regulars
May 31, 2023 at 0:35 comment added Journeyman Geek @Trilarion nothing is new. It's the exact same problems and unhappiness again. And quite a few sites have declined and become lesser than they had over time. Nothing unique about that either.

May 30, 2023 at 19:32 comment added NoDataDumpNoContribution Sure, the company had a string of rather negatively received announcements lately, but that doesn't mean that much has changed. The network does still function more or less exactly the way it functioned last year. Why now the big outcry? And what exactly is the criticism? Some ominous moderator rules that may or may not impact the content. And a general disconnect and feeling of neglect. But isn't this almost the same everywhere else? Why expecting more from Stackoverflow than from others? And laying off staff is probably nothing that the company does to hurt the community. So what's new now?

May 30, 2023 at 18:02 comment added Resistance Is Futile @SPArcheon such wide user strike will not happen. Even during Monica there was vast number of users that haven't changed their interaction with the sites and I have a feeling that this time even mods and curators striking might not be enough. Back then there was still the need to maintain content quality (selling the company has not yet happened), and I don't think that quality matters any more. It will be just squeezing money as much as possible until everything completely falls apart, but at least numbers will be good while going all the way to hell.
May 30, 2023 at 17:56 comment added SPArcheon @Mithical oh, we can and should do worse than a "mod-only" strike. Users should join too. Stop answering, stop working on the review queues, let them realize that getting new question isn't that great if they are unreadable and unanswered...
May 30, 2023 at 17:53 comment added SPArcheon @ResistanceIsFutile to be fair, I had a bad felling since Monica.

May 30, 2023 at 16:22 comment added Makoto You must be new around here. I kid, I kid, but we've had so many iterations of Stack Overflow Inc not caring all that much about the backbone that makes it successful to begin with, they're turning into anime story arcs at this point. Maybe if I'm so inclined later this evening, after work, I'll write up a more coherent response than this passing remark. But hey, maybe it was a blessing in disguise that you didn't get hired here?
May 30, 2023 at 16:00 comment added Largato It seems to me that the emperor's new clothes is that current structure only wants the numbers, there's no interest in content quality as an essencial feature (can't speak for management, but the path is very clear now, action after action, in a constant way). That seems to me a decision, not a mistake. And I mean it, I'm not writing with any significant emotion attached. Perhaps one or other cares about, but in the end, we are skating uphill.

The colon additions seem to be against the grain of what was being said: "We've got features we don't really need prioritized" - "features that we've asked for in deep backlog"

May 30, 2023 at 13:42 comment added Mithical @wizzwizz4 - Sure, but having concrete demands and some organization helps the possibility of some of those demands being somewhat met. It had a measure of success last time.
May 30, 2023 at 13:41 comment added wizzwizz4 @Mithical It's not even the kind of strike that needs to be organised. It'll just happen by default.
May 30, 2023 at 13:40 comment added Mithical I'd note that moderators and curators are considering a strike in response to some of these issues.
