40It would be nice if they took the effort to split out your progress on this queue so that you had it applied to the two new queues created from it, but I don't know if that amount of work is feasible.– TylerHCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 13:57

13@kristinalustig I think what Thomas asked for was the transfer of counts onto the new system, since First Posts = First Questions + First Answers and nothing more.– TheSimpliFireCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 14:12

4@TylerH It is not. It is calculated by counting the number of tasks you've completed in the queue, so granting progress would require moving all the tasks between queues, which has the potential to break a lot of things since the queues are similar but functionally different.– animuson StaffModCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 14:13

24@kristinalustig That doesn't really answer the question. I doubt anyone expected their badges earned in FP to be removed, but we are wondering if the literal years of progress and effort we put into the FP queue will be remembered with the changes, rather than just wiped clean– caird coinheringaahingCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 14:13

4@animuson So change the criteria for badges related to First answer and First question queues such that they count tasks both in the queue itself and in the First posts queue. This should be much easier than moving tasks around in the database.– Emil JeřábekCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 14:26

16While not 'ideal', what about just dividing the First Posts progress by 2 (round down) and then adding that amount of progress to both First Answers and First Questions? So that 451/1000 would turn into 225/1000 and 225/1000.– SarovCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 14:31

11@EmilJeřábek I happen to be familiar with how the badge award scripts work and know that it is not anywhere nearly as simple as you think it is. Nor do I think there is much value in people continuing to try to think up ways that it "might be easier" because it's really not. So I'll just leave it at not possible.– animuson StaffModCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 14:40

18This was my recommendation, as the dev who worked on it. There are technical reasons why we can't carry over the first posts counts to count towards first questions/answers scores. That said, we'll be thinking about other potential approaches to this that could address the request.– Yaakov EllisCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 16:11

3@ThomasMarkov best to reword as a feature request if you can– Yaakov EllisCommented Aug 26, 2021 at 17:36

8@YaakovEllis "we'll be thinking about other potential approaches to this that could address the request". While it's good to know that you might still do something about this, didn't it occur to staff that users might just be a little upset to have their work / time wiped out like this? Didn't anyone think 'Hmm, maybe we should respect the time and effort that people have invested before we split this review queue'? And what assurance do users have that staff won't do something else in the future which will negate users' time & effort, without any warning (as far as I can tell)?– Lars BosteenCommented Aug 27, 2021 at 7:03

15@LarsBosteen yes, it did occur to us. Yes, we talked about this (and the different options) before launch. I made the call then that we would not initially be able to transfer progress from one queue to the other. The reaction here is making us go back to the drawing board.– Yaakov EllisCommented Aug 27, 2021 at 7:25

19@YaakovEllis Thanks for "going back to the drawing board", that's good to hear.– Lars BosteenCommented Aug 27, 2021 at 9:11

6@YaakovEllis What technical reasons are there? The same as for showing vote counts without 1000 reputation, "we don't have the code for this"? If I can look at a user's review history and manually count questions and answers, obviously, a program can do the same.– the default.Commented Aug 28, 2021 at 3:30

8Why not just turn the First Posts queue into either the First Questions or First Answers queue, like what was done for Low Quanlity Answers? That way, the First Posts count will still be retained as one of the two new queues.– Vincent ThackerCommented Aug 28, 2021 at 8:35

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. stack-overflow), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
