As I've now answered your meta question (it was always my intention to do so, just needed a minute to do so) I hope it helps shed some light on both the circumstances and my own personal struggles. :) I've already learned a lot about what data I should look at just from having this question here, so I really appreciate the insights people are giving me and the time people are taking to help.
