    Why would it be any better to have an arbitrary depth limit? If you use a feature in a silly way, you get silly results.... it would also look bad to have an answer consisting of the character "a" repeated as many times as possible (i.e. "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...") but it wouldn't be useful to add a limit to the number of times "a" can occur in sequence in an answer, because this scenario would never come up outside of user abuse of the feature, which can be dealt with by flagging the post.
