8I'm sorry... I don't see how those look the same at all. Quotes have a white background and a dark grey sidebar and code has a grey background and no sidebar.– CatijaCommented Mar 9, 2020 at 21:13

@Catija I see "single character" bad code formatting all the time when people paste in code or use bad markdown. That looks exactly like the empty single quote bar. See edit.– pkambCommented Mar 9, 2020 at 21:24

3... The two don't look "exactly" alike at all. The quote bar is taller and darker and narrower. Yes, if they're not directly next to each other, this may be somewhat confusing but it should be simple to open the edit window to see which is which.– CatijaCommented Mar 9, 2020 at 21:44

1@Catija I'm talking about quickly glancing at a question. They look very similar. It's overall MUCH harder now to differentiate block quotes, now that they are not yellow. This is not an improvement.– pkambCommented Mar 9, 2020 at 21:47

9Why do you have to differentiate it. It's a mistake. If you see something like that you should fix it and it won't look like that anymore.– Cave JohnsonCommented Mar 10, 2020 at 2:06

9I agree with Kodos here. What something looks like when it is used incorrectly with improper formatting isn't really relevant, and we shouldn't be styling based on that use case. It should just be fixed in the post, and regardless what it looks like in this case, it still pushes a user to make that fix. They look nothing alike when used correctly with proper formatting.– animuson StaffModCommented Mar 10, 2020 at 2:35

I guess I agree with Kodos and animuson. If we made decisions based on the worst possible usage / outcome, we would ban knives, cars and skydiving. The weird thing is, I believe that I agree with your position: It's overall MUCH harder now to differentiate block quotes [from unquoted text] now that they are not yellow. But I just don’t understand the point you are trying to make here. It seems almost like you are saying ‘‘Pandas look exactly like zebras, so we should exterminate pandas.’’– Scott - Слава УкраїніCommented Mar 17, 2020 at 20:29

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. stack-overflow), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
