Mar 28, 2022 at 5:36 | comment | added | Martin | @This_is_NOT_a_forum It was changed this year - see the links in the comments I posted just before your comment. (To be more specific, it seems that the change was made around January 10 - judging by the timestamp on this post: Reputation and badges are no longer visible next to the users' names.)
Mar 28, 2022 at 2:35 | comment | added | iammilind | @Martin, though it's a good initiative, I feel that the username also should be omitted for a perfect neutral voting. Once a site evolves into a smaller or a medium sized community, people tend to develop group-ism; which influences their voting pattern. Similarly a moderator may develop favouritism, which might in a seldom cases influence how they handle a user's flag. Hence a good approach will be similar to "Add on request" mentioned in the OP.
Mar 27, 2022 at 16:23 | comment | added | This_is_NOT_a_forum | Noticed on 2022-03-27: On the non-space site (MathOverflow), they don't show reputation points for users, neither for the questioners nor for answerers! Example. When was that changed? Or has it always been like that? (It could also be a bug, but I doubt it.)
Mar 26, 2022 at 5:49 | comment | added | Martin | I'll mention that MathOverflow currently hides the reputation by default. This was changed just recently. Of course, this site is rather special case (it is in the SE network, but it "belongs" to MathOverflow corporation). But still, from this experiment we might be able to see after some time whether it was a useful change. Relevant links: Viewing reputation and badges is now opt-in and compatible with the new front page and Options to hide reputation information on Stack Overflow?.

Dec 28, 2019 at 15:36 | comment | added | Lightness Races in Orbit | @PeterMortensen Why is it "set in stone"?
Dec 28, 2019 at 1:14 | comment | added | iammilind | @Peter, I also had thought a while back that why the questions are underappreciated by just +5. Added to insult no -1 for down voters. Recently at least the reputation part has changed, a very good step forward by decision makers. Similarly, for user account display, when the 'stone' was carved, the SE creators may be didn't take emotions like 'hatred' & 'jealousy' in consideration. :-) This doesn't happen all the times, but time to time in various communities with many users. My recent example.

Dec 24, 2019 at 2:47 | comment | added | faintsignal | You raise a good point. Yet consider why they are called "reputation" points and what—for better or worse—is, whether consciously or otherwise, is one of the prime motivators for many participants.
Dec 24, 2019 at 2:14 | comment | added | Cave Johnson | I would say its purpose is not to encourage or discourage votes. It's for the authors to show off how much rep and shiny gold badges they aquired. It's part of the gamification that draws people in to participate.
