Hello there. I'm Harry, and together with Dan, I founded Memory Alpha way back in 2003. Dan's written a pretty good history.

My own fandom seriously started sometime around 1999. I grew up with TNG, but I distinctly remember buying the TNG Enterprise-D Cutaway Poster at some point, and for the first time learning that the whole Enteprise was thought out and actually looked almost like a real thing.

That year we also got an internet connection at home, and I discovered Bernd's Ex Astris Scientia. That's what properly set me off into the deep. We had some with with the ASDB project, where I first learned to draw by looking at Bernd and Kris (and later Masao's) work.

What I've learned from all this is that Star Trek's main purpose is bringing all kinds of people, from all over the world together, to endlessly debate and imagine a brighter, more inclusive and more interesting future. Which is pretty neat for a 50 year old TV show.
