Umali was a humanoid who lived on the planet Quarra in the Delta Quadrant.
In 2377, Umali owned a bar that mainly served workers from the nearby Central Power Facility. Tom Paris, whose memories of his past life had been wiped, approached her for a job after being terminated from the plant. She was surprised they fired him due to the planet's labor shortage, but he managed to convince her that his natural charm and personality would be an asset to her. On his first shift, Paris tried to increase "customer loyalty" from two women by giving away free drinks. Umali did not approve and told him to attend to the other tables. (VOY: "Workforce")
Umali was played by actress Iona Morris.
Umali was described in the script as a "exotic, middle-aged alien proprietress," adding that "she may or may not be a telepath, but we get the sense she has a talent for reading people."
