The USS Saratoga was a Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the mid-23rd century.
The ship played a role in the Federation-Klingon War of 2256, when on stardate 4851.5 it was tailed by a cloaked Klingon raider while entering spacedock at Starbase 22. Once inside spacedock, the raider ignited its antimatter supply in a suicide mission.
This assault, and similar ones at Starbase 19 and 12, resulted in the loss of a third of the fleet. (DIS: "The War Without, The War Within")
