The USS Bonestell (NCC-31600) was an Oberth-class Federation starship that was in service to Starfleet during the latter half of the 24th century.

In 2366, the Bonestell participated in the Battle of Wolf 359, where it was destroyed by the Borg, along with 38 other starships.

Just as Benjamin Sisko entered his quarters on board the USS Saratoga, during the evacuation, the Bonestell was hit by a cutting beam pulse from the Borg cube. The cutting beam destroyed the front saucer section of the ship in a massive explosion, sending the derelict hulk hurtling past the Saratoga. (DS9: "Emissary")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

The first mention of the Bonestell dates to an internal list of starships from 26 September 1990. In the list, it was stated that an Oberth-class miniature (identified as Grissom, after the first ship seen of this class) was modified for the appearance of the Bonestell in "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II". [1]

The name on the model was illegible on screen.

This ship was originally identified to fans in the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 3rd ed., p. 470, with the given registry of NCC-31600, and was said to be named after astronomical artist Chesley Bonestell. According to the entry, the wreck first appeared in "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II".

Apocrypha[]

According to the novel Pathways by Jeri Taylor, Kathryn Janeway served on the Bonestell from 2362 to 2365.
