Tarok was a M-class moon orbiting a gas giant planet in the Delta Quadrant, located in Kazon-Ogla territory and hosting a secret Kazon-Ogla training camp. The world featured warm environments with caves, and birds might be seen in its sky. Soil analysis indicated it was unsuited for an Intrepid-class ship to land on.

Despite weapons being hard to come by in the region, there were enough concealed weapon systems on the moon to destroy the entire surface, including phaser banks, force fields, and photon dischargers. These generated a large amount of radiothermic interference, making sensor scans of the surface impossible.

In 2372, Commander Chakotay and the Kazon boy Kar transported to Tarok after escaping from Kazon-Ogla First Maje Jal Razik. They were later rescued by landing parties from the USS Voyager and the Kazon-Ogla. (VOY: "Initiations")

According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 84), Tarok's gas giant primary orbited a K-class star. The Voyager visited this moon on stardate 49005.

The famous Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park were used as filming location for the surface of the moon.
