Star Trek: The USS Voyager NCC-74656 Illustrated Handbook is an officially licensed hardcover in dustjacket reference book, that was authored by Ben Robinson.

The third volume in the Illustrated Handbook mass-market book series, it was published by Eaglemoss Collections through Penguin Random House's Publisher Services division on 14 July 2020, under the former company's Hero Collector imprint.

Through illustrations and text, this volume comprehensively explores the USS Voyager and its auxiliary craft as they appeared in Star Trek: Voyager.

A model of the ship from Standard Edition issue 6 of the Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection was slated to be included with the book as part of a Special Edition but this printing was canceled ("postponed indefinitely") before publication. [1]

Background information[]

  • While not specifically mentioned in/on the book, it was released in the year of Voyager's 25th anniversary.
  • The vast majority of the content was previously published in the Star Trek Fact Files and has been updated and incorporated into the book, alongside some entirely new material. Robinson has acknowledged the original Fact Files editorial staff, for which Robinson had served as one of its editors-in-chief, in the foreword/acknowledgements section of each book.
  • Newer additional material originated from later GE Fabbri-affiliated publications such as Star Trek: The Magazine and The Official Star Trek The Next Generation: Build the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, for which Robert Bonchune had contributed much CG imagery.
  • Robinson brought this series to fruition, feeling that there was an eagerness within the fanbase to access this material more easily, and offered, "The thing about the Fact Files, as you say, they’re massive and unwieldy and 18 binders long. I always wanted to take the best material from the Fact Files of those incredible illustrations and put it out in book form. Those illustrated handbooks are really the most thorough attempt to document the ships as they appeared upon screen with illustrations of pretty much every room that you saw on the screen." [2]
  • The release of this book has made the likely publication of a similar Star Trek: Voyager Technical Manual appear even more remote, despite the two-decades old desire to publish one, held by Voyager designer Rick Sternbach. [3] Though Sternbach had occasionally volunteered knowledge and his services to Robinson's Starships Collection – which included the issues dealing with the USS Voyager – , he was neither asked for his input nor asked to contribute new material for the book. Essentially, Robinson had stolen Sternbach's thunder.
