Site-to-site transporter

A portable site-to-site transporter owned by Tom Paris in an alternate timeline

A site-to-site transporter was a portable device that used transporter technology to allow the user to beam from one location to another without the use of a transporter pad. They were typically small hand-held devices or miniature models that could be worn on clothing, and were able to transport themselves along with the payload.

The emergency transporter armband and emergency transport unit performed similar roles for use in an emergency. (TNG: "The Best of Both Worlds"; Star Trek Nemesis)

History[]

In 2370, the Vorta operative Eris used a hidden portable untraceable long-range transporter device concealed in the left wrist of her jacket to escape from Deep Space 9. (DS9: "The Jem'Hadar")

The Vorta device was referred to as a "concealed transporter device" in the script of "The Jem'Hadar". [1]

In 2372, in an alternate timeline, Tom Paris had acquired a hand-held site-to-site transporter. He and Harry Kim used the device to transport from a San Francisco street to Harry's office at Starfleet Headquarters and from the office to the Spacedock One. This type of transporter beamed itself along with the transported personnel. (VOY: "Non Sequitur")

In 2374, Captain Kathryn Janeway used a site-to-site transporter to allow her and the Leonardo da Vinci hologram to escape from Tau's warehouse. (VOY: "Concerning Flight")

In 2375, the Borg drone One developed internal transporter nodes based on the 29th century mobile emitter technology. These implants could be utilized as a personal portable site-to-site transporter. (VOY: "Drone")

Emergency transport unit

The emergency transport unit

In 2379, emergency transport units, a type of miniature portable transporter technology, had been developed by Starfleet. They were designed to provide a single one-direction transport for one individual. During the Battle in the Bassen Rift, Jean-Luc Picard beamed from the Scimitar to the USS Enterprise-E using such a device. (Star Trek Nemesis)

In 2384, Dal R'El, Rok-Tahk, Jankom Pog, Gwyndala, Murf, Zero, and Maj'el took a site-to-site transporter with them to Solum as a means of escape as the USS Voyager-A wouldn't be able to beam them out. The transporter had enough power for one emergency use before detection and if the team lost it, then they would be stuck on the planet. Gwyn later gave Dal the transporter, intending to have Wesley Crusher use his powers to take her, Rok, and Murf to Voyager instead. When the group was captured, Dal activated the transporter and tossed it to Wesley. The transporter beamed Wesley and Ilthuran directly to Voyager's bridge while the others got left behind. (PRO: "Brink")
