Admiral Savar was a male Vulcan who, in the 24th century, served as a high-ranking flag officer in Starfleet.

In 2364, Savar held an important position at Starfleet Headquarters. At some point, he became infected with a parasitic being and was under the control of an alien mother creature that had taken residence in Lieutenant Commander Dexter Remmick.

When the USS Enterprise-D returned to Earth to respond to suspicions of a conspiracy by these creatures, Savar greeted Captain Jean-Luc Picard and invited him to dinner. When Picard arrived, co-conspirators Aaron and Tryla Scott, as well as several security commanding officers, all joined Savar in cornering Picard in a dining hall and showing him how their people fed on live vermicular lifeforms. When William T. Riker posed as one of the possessed officers in order to recover Picard, Savar attempted to use a Vulcan neck pinch on him. Picard disabled Savar with phaser fire, causing the parasite to flee Savar's fallen body. (TNG: "Conspiracy")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

Admiral Savar was played by Henry Darrow.

Savar was not present in a story outline which Robert Sabaroff originally submitted to Paramount and which became the genesis of "Conspiracy" (the episode meanwhile had the working title "The Assassins"). [1] The character was present, however, in a story outline that Tracy Tormé later sent as a memo to Maurice Hurley, on 3 February 1988 (while the installment was simply called "Assassins").

In both that outline and the script of "Conspiracy", Savar was described as "regal" and his name was phonetically notated "suh-vaar", with emphasis on the latter syllable. The script also clarified that Savar died at the end of the episode.

Savar's rank insignia, a triangle with one pip, would seem to place him above Mark Jameson and below Aaron, though all three are only described as "admiral". Savar and Aaron are described as "senior admirals" in the script. [2]

Apocrypha[]

In the game Star Trek Conquest, Savar was a player character in a reality in which the Milky Way Galaxy was embroiled in conflicts between multiple species and cultures. In 2364, Savar held the rank of commodore and was in command of a defense fleet during the conflict. Savar had an opportunity to be promoted all the way to fleet admiral based on his battle experiences, but at the cost of constant vigilance against the possibility of combat with Klingons, Romulans, Breen, Cardassians, and Jem'Hadar forces, as well as in danger from the Xindi, Ferengi, Orions, and Borg that had taken over the systems that had become neutral as they fell away from the Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire, Breen Confederacy, Cardassian Union, and Dominion governments.
