Patrick B. Egan performed the role of Whatley in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fifth season episode "The Assignment".

Egan's acting debut was in Butch and Sundance: The Early Days (1979, with Peter Brocco, Jeff Corey, Shay Duffin, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent Schiavelli, John Schuck, Peter Weller, and Noble Willingham). Egan made his television debut in 1983 guesting on the series premiere of Second Chances, working with Erich Anderson, Ronny Cox, Michael McGrady, Michelle Phillips, and Ray Wise. Egan was seen on The Practice in 1998's "Checkmates", directed by Adam Nimoy and joined by Albert Hall, John Larroquette, and Jack Shearer. Egan lent his voice to the The Jungle Book: Mowgli's Story (1998, with Clancy Brown, Sherman Howard, Kay E. Kuter, and Frank Welker. Egan continued in 1998, reuniting with Erich Anderson in the telefilm Where's Marlowe?, working with Kamala Dawson, Miguel Ferrer, Maury Ginsberg, Ken Jenkins, and Clayton Rohner. In 2001, Egan costarred with Tina Lifford in the sex comedy Amy's Orgasm and that year found Egan appearing in Breathing Hard with John Billingsley, Armin Shimerman, Deborah Strang, Joel Swetow, and Kitty Swink. Egan worked rarely over the next fifteen years before getting cast in the Christmas film Pee-Wee's Big Holiday alongside Frank Collison, Hal Landon, Jr., Richard Riehle, and Diane Salinger.
