Chakotay performing the Pakra
The Pakra was a solitary Native American ritual commemorating dead ancestors.
In 2372, Chakotay commemorated the anniversary of his father Kolopak's death. Chakotay said a prayer over his medicine bundle:
- "A-koo-chee-moya. I pray on this day of memories to speak to my father, the one whom the wind called Kolopak. Though I am far from his bones, perhaps there is a spirit in these unnamed skies who will find him and honor him with my song."
Chakotay later adapted this prayer to include Kar, a young Kazon boy who had attempted to kill Chakotay in order to earn his Kazon name. (VOY: "Initiations")
