NGC 321

The Explored Galaxy

The location of Eminiar, a star in NGC 321, in "The Explored Galaxy" star chart

NGC 321, also known as FGC-321, was a star cluster in the Alpha Quadrant. The cluster contained the Eminiar system and its planets Eminiar VII and Vendikar.

In 2259, on a stellar cartography chart seen in the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen, the location of the Eminiar system was labeled "Eminiar (in FGC-321)". (SNW: "Children of the Comet")

In 2267, the Federation dispatched Ambassador Robert Fox aboard the USS Enterprise to negotiate a treaty port there. Federation authorities were concerned over the large number of deaths in the quadrant since 2247, and sought the treaty port to lessen the hazards. Fox ultimately remained on Eminiar to help negotiate a peace treaty that ended the Eminians' five-century war with Vendikar. (TOS: "A Taste of Armageddon")

In 2293, the location of Eminiar in the Milky Way Galaxy was labeled in the star chart "The Explored Galaxy", which was on display in Captain James T. Kirk's quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country production art)

In 2328, the Eminiar VII Starbase was an embarkation and destination stop for commercial transports. (TNG-R: "Inheritance")

In 2366, in an alternate timeline, during the Federation-Klingon War, the location of Eminiar was labeled on a tactical situation monitor in the ready room aboard the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise" display graphic)

In 2367, the location of Eminiar was labeled on a tactical situation monitor in Captain Benjamin Maxwell's ready room on the USS Phoenix. (TNG: "The Wounded" display graphic)

This star cluster's quadrant of origin is inferred based on the position of the Eminiar system as seen in the star chart appearing in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

In the real world, NGC 321 is a distant galaxy.

For the second edition of the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Alpha Quadrant: Local Space Extract"), the name of this cluster was changed to FGC 321.
