Miranda Vigo was a female Human of the 24th century, born in 2320 on New Gaul. She was trained as a botanist, though she dedicated her later years to caring for Camorite orphans. She had a son, Jason Vigo, with a Starfleet officer.

In 2346, she had a short affair with Jean-Luc Picard on Earth while he was on shore leave; they were introduced by a mutual friend. Picard described it as short and intense. They kept in touch, but only for awhile. Shortly after, Miranda became involved with another man, also in Starfleet, with whom she had her son Jason.

She moved with Jason to Camor V in 2358 where she began farming and caring for Camorite orphans. She found a large house she could use and sheltered around forty children. Calling it a "school," she taught them reading, vegetable growing, and singing. She worked tirelessly for them, and made sure they become tough enough to survive.

She was murdered by men looking for food in the 2360s, leaving the children on their own and Jason still uncertain about his paternity. (TNG: "Bloodlines")

Background information[]

This character was only mentioned in dialogue. According to the script, her last name was pronounced as "VEE-go". [1]

According to the authors of the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 3rd ed., p. 545, "We suspect that an early draft of "Bloodlines" may have intended Miranda to be a former member of Picard's crew aboard the Stargazer, since his weapons officer aboard that ship (seen in TNG: "The Battle") was named Vigo. We speculate that as the story was developed, the Stargazer connection was dropped, but the character name was not changed."
