A methodology was a system of methods used in a particular area of study or activity.

In 2154, when Malcolm Reed was possessed by an Organian observer, he asked Doctor Phlox about his methodology when he was running tests on Charles Tucker III and Hoshi Sato, who had contracted a silicon-based virus while on an away mission. (ENT: "Observer Effect")

On at least one occasion, Data cited Sherlock Holmes' methodology as useful when performing his duties. (TNG: "Data's Day")

In 2369, although Doctor Beverly Crusher found Reyga's metaphasic shield technology to be promising, she found his methodology to be unorthodox. (TNG: "Suspicions")

In 2371, Captain Kathryn Janeway told Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres that Commander Chakotay believed she should make her the chief engineer of the USS Voyager. But she then went on to tell her that she would have to be good at commanding others, and would have to practice Starfleet protocol and methodologies. (VOY: "Parallax")

As a boy, Kovich was fascinated by Terran history and methodology. This was because there were very few species that did things simply to do them.

His fascination with Terran history and methodology didn't end when he was a boy however, as he continued to be fascinated into adulthood.
