"We're not really elite. We're more like the cool, scrappy underdogs of the ship."

"Lower decks" or lower deckers were nicknames for the junior officers aboard a starship, who typically lived and worked on their ship's lower decks.

In 2380, Ensign D'Vana Tendi was coldly welcomed aboard the USS Cerritos by Lieutenant Dirk who instructed her to "keep it movin', lower decks." Aboard the ship, Ensigns Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, Sam Rutherford, and Tendi reclaimed the term to describe their group proudly, on one occasion chanting "Lower decks! Lower decks!" in the ship's bar. (LD: "Second Contact")
