The Kelvin pod was a type of escape pod that was attached to the USS Enterprise in 2263. Kelvin pods were stowed beneath the bridge of the Constitution-class ship, allowing quick egress for the command crew in the circumstances of a catastrophic event.
Captain James T. Kirk, Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, and Ensign Pavel Chekov used Kelvin pods to escape the destruction of the Enterprise following an attack by Krall and his forces during the Battle of Altamid. Following the defeat of the Enterprise, Krall's Swarm ships were able to capture several Kelvin pods while Kirk and Chekov's pods (as well as a pod containing Kalara) soft landed on Altamid independently.

Kelvin pods were equipped with parachutes for landing on planetary bodies and were stocked with Starfleet standard equipment including phasers, communicators, tricorders, survival kits, and ration packs, as well as Starfleet survival suits. (Star Trek Beyond)
