Japan Mix, Inc. (ジャパン・ミックス) was a short-lived Japanese publishing company of (pop culture) reference books active in the 1990s, that also translated and published several Star Trek reference works from Pocket Books for its home market in the latter half of the 1990s. These publications were addended by the publisher with a small number of original Japanese-language Star Trek reference book releases.
At the time based out of Tokyo, no post-2000 releases are known of the publisher, implicating that it is no longer in operation. As there are also no pre-1990 releases known, [1] it appears that the publisher's existence had not extended beyond a decade at most.
Star Trek reference books[]
As is commonplace in Japan, all book releases are provided with a quarter page text "obi" (=book wrapper) on which blurbs and bibliographical data are printed.
Translated publications[]
Even though the Japanese people traditionally read their books from right to left, meaning that from a western perspective that books are read starting with the back cover, Japan Mix decided to adhere to the western format for their Star Trek book translations after the two 1996 titles which were released in the Japanese reading tradition. All post-1995 releases though, save The Art of Star Trek, were housed in what the publisher had coined the "Star Trek Academic Research" ("スター・トレック大研究/Sutā torekku daikenkyū") series.

Japan Mix adhered to the Japanese reading tradition for their original Japanese-language reference book publications, one of which actually written for the Japanese market by American author James Van Hise.
