An intensive care area was an area of a medical facility where patients requiring intensive medical care were housed. This area was usually kept quiet.
In 2267, following his accident, Christopher Pike stayed in an intensive care area at Starbase 11 until Spock arranged for his transport back to Talos IV. (TOS: "The Menagerie, Part I")
