Confiscation was the act of legally seizing possession of an item from an individual or group who had obtained it illegally or no longer had any right to it.

In 2258 of the alternate reality, Spock announced to Nero that he was confiscating the Jellyfish. (Star Trek)

The following year, a K'normian trading ship was confiscated by the USS Enterprise during the Mudd Incident. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

In 2267, while trying to persuade Ayelborne of the senselessness of not defending against the Klingons, James T. Kirk warned them that their goods would be confiscated. (TOS: "Errand of Mercy")

When attempting to communicate with a large alien that had lifted him into the air at Rura Penthe in 2293, Kirk tried to explain that his universal translator had been confiscated. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

While visiting Kivas Fajo in the USS Enterprise-D brig in 2366, Data expressed doubt about the collector's assertion that he could obtain the android again, reminding him that his collection had been confiscated. (TNG: "The Most Toys")

Later, Gul Dukat ordered Drofo Awa’s ship to follow the USS Mekong back to Deep Space 9 where his cargo would be confiscated. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part II")

Also that year, Gul Evek confiscated 24 photon warheads from Miles O'Brien's runabout. (DS9: "Tribunal")

In 2371, while Odo was lending his body for Curzon Dax to take it over for Jadzia Dax's zhian'tara, he opened a bottle of Saurian brandy in Odo's security office. He said Odo had confiscated it from a Yridian smuggler. (DS9: "Facets")

Later that year, Benjamin Sisko ordered 27 voles found in Quark’s storeroom to be confiscated and removed from the station. (DS9: "Through the Looking Glass")

In 2372, K'Temang attempted to confiscate the Groumall and its cargo on the authority of the Klingon Empire and his ship's disruptors. (DS9: "Return to Grace")

In 2377, Ranek ordered the confiscation of biogenic material discovered aboard the Delta Flyer. (VOY: "Body and Soul")

Later, The Doctor offered his mobile emitter to Kathryn Janeway for confiscation as punishment for joining Iden's rebellion. (VOY: "Flesh and Blood")
