The Imperial Romulan Warbird Khazara was a Romulan D'deridex-class warbird that was in service with the Romulan military during the mid-24th century.

In 2369, the Khazara was under the command of Commander Toreth when it was ordered to transport Major Rakal of the Tal Shiar and a shipment of cargo to the Kaleb sector. The mission was in fact engineered by Ambassador Spock, to allow Vice-Proconsul M'ret and two of his aides to defect to the Federation. Sub-Commander N'Vek, Spock's operative on the Khazara, arranged for Deanna Troi to be surgically altered and assume Rakal's identity. The Khazara was to transfer its cargo to a Corvallen freighter, which would then rendezvous with the USS Enterprise-D. Meanwhile, former Ensign DeSeve was sent to the Enterprise to inform Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the arrangements.

When the Khazara met the Corvallens, Troi sensed that they could not be trusted to fulfill their end of the agreement. Concerned that their mission might be exposed, N'Vek destroyed the freighter. Afterward, N'Vek convinced Troi to order the Khazara under cloak to Draken IV, a Federation planet. However, before they departed they encountered the Enterprise, which had detected the freighter's debris. Seeing an opportunity, Troi had N'Vek misalign one of the Khazara's nullifier cores, allowing the Enterprise to track them. To prevent Toreth from firing on the Enterprise after she noticed the starship following them, Troi seized command of the Khazara and contacted the Enterprise under the guise of launching a sneak attack. When the Enterprise shields dropped at Troi's request, N'Vek beamed M'ret and his aides to the Enterprise bridge by hiding a transporter beam inside a low-power disruptor beam. Toreth regained command of her vessel after she discovered the truth. N'Vek was killed, but Troi was beamed away by the Enterprise just as the Khazara engaged its cloak. (TNG: "Face Of The Enemy")

The Starships RPG sourcebook gives its registry as I.R.C. 1958.

The Khazara was the setting for a 1995 Hallmark commercial for that year's Romulan warbird Christmas ornament. [1]

The Pocket ENT novel To Brave the Storm features the namesake of the Khazara, a Romulan officer in the Battle of Vorkado during the Earth-Romulan War.
