Hyperbole

Hyperbole was a figure of speech often used as a literary device in which a deliberate exaggeration was made for dramatic effect.

In 2369, Benjamin Sisko warned Kira Nerys that he would have her "head on a platter" if she went over his head one more time. (DS9: "Past Prologue")

In 2371, Harry Kim claimed that he'd heard that Maquis and Starfleet members aboard USS Voyager were "at each other's throats". Tuvok found his statement to be extreme, remarking, "I will never cease to be amazed by the Human capacity for hyperbole." (VOY: "Parallax")

In 2372, Lenara Kahn opined that her brother's head would explode if she and Jadzia Dax picked up where Torias Dax and Nilani Kahn left off. (DS9: "Rejoined")

Serials such as The Adventures of Captain Proton made frequent use of hyperbole. (VOY: "Bride of Chaotica!")

In 2375, Tom Paris explained to Kim that the recaps on episodes of The Adventures of Captain Proton made use of the lost art of hyperbole. (VOY: "Bride of Chaotica!")

Later that year, Paris begged Neelix to give him food on credit. When the Talaxian refused, Paris claimed it was a life and death situation. Neelix assured him that his hyperbole wouldn't convince him. Paris, on the other hand, felt he was accurately describing the stakes if he didn't come through with some kind of special first date anniversary dinner for B'Elanna Torres, having forgotten all about the occasion until recently. (VOY: "Warhead")

In 2378, Q justified leaving his son Junior with Kathryn Janeway, claiming he and her both knew she was a million times the parent he was. (VOY: "Q2")

In 2381, the Vendorian leader commented that Lieutenant Steve Levy's knowledge of their customs was combined with hyperbole and fiction. (LD: "Caves")
