(written from a Production point of view)

According to background material created for Star Trek Generations, Hippolyta was a character from William Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

In a letter sent by the Committee for Quadcentenial, Jean-Luc Picard received confirmation that he would be attending a series of commeration activities in honor of the Apollo 11 moon landings. The activities would last for four days. Concluding the confirmation, the writer quoted this charater's lines from the play. The lines were,

Four days will quickly steep themselves in night;
Four days will quickly dream away the time.
And, then the moon, like to a silver bow,
New-bent in heaven, shall behold the night
Of our solemnities. (Act 1, Scene 1)

The writer advised Picard not to be solemn.

The letter containing this information was included in the Picard family album during the filming of Generations. However, the information is non-canon as the letter was never seen on-screen.
