Greskrendtregk was the Ktarian husband of Ensign Samantha Wildman. He stayed aboard Deep Space 9 when she vanished on the USS Voyager in 2371.

While mysterious temporal anomalies were occurring on the ship in early 2371, Tuvok mentioned to Captain Janeway that he had encountered a half-Ktarian young girl claiming to be Naomi Wildman – even though no girl had been born yet. Captain Janeway mentioned she had met Ensign Wildman's husband once, a Ktarian, on Deep Space 9. (VOY: "Fury")

Unbeknownst to him, his wife was actually pregnant when the ship left, and would give birth to their daughter, Naomi Wildman, while trapped in the Delta Quadrant. (VOY: "Elogium", "Deadlock")

Samantha had considered naming her child after Greskrendtregk had the child been a son, as the name was an honored one in her husband's family; he was the fifth generation male of his family line to have that name. After Kes suggested the name "Benaren", after her father, Wildman mused that Greskrendtregk might make a "good middle name." (VOY: "Dreadnought")

In 2376, while Seven of Nine was briefly overcome by a conspiracy theory regarding Voyager's becoming marooned by the Caretaker, she refused to speak to Naomi, given the girl's paternal parentage, because the Ktarians sympathized with the Maquis, despite their outward Federation allegiance. Seven felt that Naomi would share these sympathies. (VOY: "The Voyager Conspiracy")

As part of her project for the Annual Voyager Science Fair later that year, Naomi learned about and built a model of her father's home planet. Later, while asking Icheb about his parents, whom he had been newly reunited with, Naomi commented that she had never met her father. (VOY: "Child's Play")

Background information[]

This character was only mentioned in dialogue.

According to the script for "Dreadnought", it was stated that he was a "Ktarean" (vs. "Ktarian").

Apocrypha[]

Greskrendregk plays an important role in "Letting Go", a short story in the Distant Shores anthology. Looking at events back on Earth after Voyager disappears, it reveals that Greskrendregk organized a 'party' for those friends and family of the crew of Voyager on the first anniversary of the ship's disappearance, musing in his first talk with Mark Johnson that Samantha is the only non-Ktarian he has met who is able to pronounce his name properly. The story ends when the third anniversary 'celebration' is interrupted by the discovery of Voyager's true fate, with Greskrendregk being congratulated on the discovery that he is a father as he and Samantha had been undergoing tests for compatibility and had been uncertain if they could even have children.
