Gaullism was a political movement in France.
In France in the 2020s, the Gaullists failed to deal with student protests. They were replaced by neo-Trotskyists, who contrary to expectations were unsuccessful as well. This state of affairs was seen as a sign that Europe was falling apart. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part II")

Gaullism is named for French military leader and statesman Charles de Gaulle. The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 300 stated that the Gaullists were (prior to the Neo-Trotskyists) the dominant party of the French National Assembly.
