Finches were a type of bird native to Earth.

The finches of the Galápagos Islands were notable in that they provided the crucial biological clues that allowed Charles Darwin to develop the theory of evolution. As such, the Handbook of Exobiology compared them to the role the Termites of Loracus Prime played in the development of Hodgkin's law of parallel planetary development. (ENT: "Strange New World")
