Lieutenant Chen was a 23rd century Starfleet officer assigned to the USS Discovery under Captain Gabriel Lorca.
In 2256, Chen was on the alpha shift duty roster assigned to the bridge.
While jumping through time as a result of a Krenim chronophage in 3191, Paul Stamets read off Chen as being on duty on the bridge while Michael Burnham had to explain to the bridge crew their situation; though no changes to the timeline resulted. (DIS: "Face the Strange")
