The Eisenberg class was a type of Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the 31st century and into the 33rd century. Its primary hull had a tapered upward-sloping shape, with two disconnected warp nacelles.

In 3069, this class saw the loss of many of its ships to the Burn. Ships with active warp cores were destroyed when their dilithium became inert, resulting in antimatter explosions. (DIS: "People of Earth")

In 3189, the fleet at Federation Headquarters included the USS Nog, a ship of this class. The collective energy of this fleet sustained a distortion field that concealed the headquarters' location. (DIS: "Die Trying")

Dismayed that Cleveland Booker and Ruon Tarka stole the Federation's only prototype of a second generation spore drive in 3190, Fleet Admiral Charles Vance issued orders to scramble all available ships to track them down, including Eisenberg-class ships and shuttles. (DIS: "All In")

In the 33rd century, dozens of starships of this class participated in a ceremonial honor-formation at Federation Headquarters for the launch of Zora and the USS Discovery's Red Directive mission. (DIS: "Life, Itself")

Background information[]

The Eisenberg-class was designed by Ryan Dening, [1] with the assistance of Lee Fitzgerald, a staff member of his own North Front Studio design company. (Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection, issue 14, p. 11)

First mentioned in the episode "All In", the class was named in tribute to Aron Eisenberg, the actor who portrayed Nog – and after whom the class vessel USS Nog was named – on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. [2] The double tribute was at the express wish of showrunner Alex Kurtzman upon the death of the performer in September 2019. (Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection, issue 14, p. 14)

A better view of the design was first afforded in 2020 promotional artwork on social media, [3] before the class received its own much more detailed outing in the Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection in 2022, besides the accompanying display model.

Apocrypha[]

The second edition of Eaglemoss/Hero Collector's Star Trek: Shipyards - Starfleet Ships 2294 to the Future (p. 309) listed both the USS Cuyahoga (NCC-325069) and the USS Grechko (β) (NCC-325071) as members of this class. The USS Hansando is in addition listed as well, albeit with the divergent NCC-325002 registry.

Issue 14 of the Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection stated the length of the Eisenberg-class as being 1,212 meters or 3,976'8.25" as calculated off the CGI model by VFX Art Director William Budge. (pp. 3, 14)
