The DOT-23 was a 32nd century successor to the DOT-7.
More slender than the DOT-7, the robot had a detachable head and arms. It could use both of its arms for welding, as opposed to the older-style robot, which could only use one. The robot possessed anti-grav technology, allowing it to hover inside starships and space stations.

In 3189, these robots, working alongside the DOT-7s, participated in the retrofitting of the USS Discovery, while at least one of them performed routine maintenance on the Federation Headquarters. (DIS: "Scavengers")
During Osyraa's attack on Federation Headquarters after hijacking the USS Discovery, the Sphere's data hid itself in several DOT-23s. (DIS: "There Is A Tide...", "That Hope Is You, Part 2")
The DOT-23s were first seen in the DIS Season 3 opening title sequence starting with "That Hope Is You, Part 1".
