The Courage-class was a type of Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the 31st century into the 33rd century. Its design featured a vertically-oriented diamond-shaped primary hull, with an engineering hull protruding aft from the middle.

In 3069, this class saw the loss of several ships to The Burn. Ships with active warp cores were destroyed when their dilithium became inert, resulting in antimatter explosions. (DIS: "People of Earth")

In 3189, the fleet at Federation Headquarters included ships of this class. The collective energy of this fleet sustained a distortion field that concealed the headquarters' location. (DIS: "Die Trying", "The Sanctuary", "There Is A Tide...")

In the 33rd century, eight or more starships of this class participated in a ceremonial honor-formation at Federation Headquarters for the launch of Zora and the USS Discovery's Red Directive mission. (DIS: "Life, Itself")

Background information[]

The Courage-class was designed by Ryan Dening. [1]

The name of this class came from promotional concept art released by CBS Studios on Twitter. [2] The artwork featured a "USS Jubayr (NCC-325068)", though that ship name has not been used on screen. This class was also featured in further promotional artwork on social media following "Die Trying". [3] The Jubayr is also featured as a Courage-class vessel in the 2nd edition of Eaglemoss Collections' Star Trek: Shipyards - Starfleet Ships 2294 to the Future reference book (pp.286-289).

The Jubayr was slated to receive its own individual outing in Eaglemoss' Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection partwork publication as issue 16, but the bankruptcy of the company put that intent on hold. The display model part of the issue was eventually released with an one-year delay, but not the magazine, as it had apparently not entered the regular printrun yet by the time of the bankruptcy.

The CG model for the Eaglemoss publication was constructed by the company's mainstay Fabio Passaro, who re-rendered the production model constructed at Pixomondo from the Autodesk Maya software into the LightWave 3D software format (Eaglemoss' software package of choice) in order to make it print publication ready, aside from additionally converting it into the CAD files needed for display model manufacturing.

Concept art for a holo in DIS: "Erigah" depicted a Courage-class ship, the USS Shogun (NCC-325092), as one of the four warp signatures coming to aid Federation Headquarters against the Breen, though VFX changed the graphic by the final episode. [4]

Apocrypha[]

According to the solicitation magazine cover of issue 16 of Eaglemoss' Official Starships Collection, the overall length of the class measured 1,141.92 meters
