A box was a container used for transport or storage which was sometimes lockable.

The term "box" or "wooden box" was slang for a coffin. (ENT: "Silent Enemy", "North Star"; TOS: "A Piece of the Action"; DS9: "Armageddon Game", "In the Cards")

A small box including a red pillow was used to house the Stone of J'Kah at the Vulcan monastery at P'Jem. (ENT: "The Andorian Incident")

The call sheet listed this box as a "small handcarved box with stone on pillow" in the props section.

Following the first contact with the Ferengi in 2364, William T. Riker from the USS Enterprise-D requested permission to beam a box of Chinese finger puzzles over to their ship, as a "thank you". (TNG: "The Last Outpost")

When Commander Bruce Maddox attempted to claim Data as the property of Starfleet in 2365, he claimed that "If it [Data] were a box on wheels I would not be facing this opposition." (TNG: "The Measure Of A Man")

In 2381, Doctor T'Ana had Ensign D'Vana Tendi go to Qualor II with Beckett Mariner to fetch her a box. When she returned to the USS Cerritos, she used the box, getting into it much like a cat. (LD: "We'll Always Have Tom Paris")
